Fashion Marketing Schools
Many people dream of attending fashion marketing schools. In California there are many schools that an aspiring fashion designer or fashion entrepreneur can choose to attend to learn their stuff, if they know where to start looking and if their head is in the right place. Many people think that anybody can afford to go to and get into any of the fashion marketing schools in California, but that is not true.
In essence, the fashion industry is a great deal like the art industry, and art students need to do more than breathe and have a heartbeat to get into art school, don’t they? Even so, if anybody could get into fashion marketing schools, there would be a good many failures and drop-outs as the industry is simply not for everyone.
How to Know If California is Right for You
It is not just fashion marketing schools that must be considered but also whether or not the location is right. California is certainly a beautiful state, but it is also jammed full of people, cars, and smog; that paints a pretty nasty picture but anybody who has ever been to California should know that things are quite to the contrary.
It is a beautiful state with a booming economy in the fashion niche, and it is where many artists and designers actually get their start. If you can’t deal with a little bit of pollution, some rather strange people, and a whole lot of noise and business then most of the fashion marketing schools in California are probably not going to be the best idea for you.
Fashion Magazine
In the publication industry, there are many fashion magazines catering to different ages and genders. If you are feeling rich, you can even import magazines from overseas.
But if you are on a budget, there is no need to pay a premium to stay stylish. A good and simple gauge of magazine content relevancy is the price. Just buy a magazine that you find reasonably affordable and you will usually get the best content suitable for your age range. Students on shoe-string budgets will most likely pick teen-related content. Mature readers on the other hand will usually have a salary and could thus afford pricier magazines.
Why is an affordable magazine more useful?
First things first, content will be tailored to suit your lifestyle needs. Chances are that you will be able to relate to most lifestyle, fashion, and celebrity news. More importantly, most of the clothes sourced will be affordable to you.
Styling and makeup tips featured will also suit your age range best.
What about the other interesting magazines? In what cases should I buy them?
Most popular publications can be found in libraries or cafés. So reading them three issues late or so is not such an issue if they do not update your personal style. Buy them only if you see particular hairstyles that you want to keep for your stylist. Either that or buy them if specific issues inspire you.
Tip: Look out for bumper issues as they usually have more content. Magazines usually issue these around September.
Fashion Work
Work experience in fashion can be one of the most challenging positions to find. It’s a simple equation of supply and demand and unfortunately there are often not enough opportunities to go around. Imagine boosting your chances? Here is my advice!
Most fashion businesses (head office) have a work experience program for students either in the Senior School years or for fashion students. Work experience tends to be either in a one week or sequence of days or a day a week for a number of months. Either way you need to consider that although the company is getting an ‘extra pair of hands’ for no financial outlay it can be a disruption to the business. This is why you may often find fashion businesses are negative when you pluck the courage to make the call.
Let’s give you a better opportunity for success… Plan your work experience and never leave it to the last minute to scout for opportunities. Many companies have a work experience booking system with bookings required at least a few months before you will commence. Some very popular brands book the whole year out from approaches made in January!
When you call you should ask for the human resources department. If the company doesn’t have one; then ask to speak to the person in charge of recruitment. If your call can’t be put through ask confidently for the name and email address of the person in charge of recruitment. Some companies may not disclose email addresses so send a letter.
